MATCH RACING
Match racing, known as one’s main competitive races of its grade, offers a unique, though aggressive and exciting event to watch, surrounded by spectacular spots, enabling thousands spectators to follow the races from land, since its venue is close to shore.
At this class of match race, similar boats follow the rise to a pre-match duel, doing the same course, fighting to positioning itself on first place when approaching the end of the race. The first boat to arrive, and following the rules, is normally the winner. During the whole course “instant justice” is applied.
Match race sailing’s queen, has its own set of rules, which differs from any other regattas of this range, and one of the main objectives is to force the opponents to make mistakes and therefore being penalized. Match racing judgements are done on-the water, during the race with umpires instantly deciding what infringements and violations were committed (“instant justice”).
